1. It would be extremely valuable to add a high spatial resolution optical sensor with a single panchromatic or two band red/nir with ICESAT-II so that we have the optical imagery for the exact spot where the lidar beam hit the ground. This would be critical for validation and bring synergistic value from Lidar, Radar and optical imagery to extract forest canopy structure. 2. there should be a significant ground validation effort with ICESAT-II. Because of this systematic sampling in data collection, existing permanent plots may not be very useful for validation as it would be a small probability event for the lidar beam to hit them, and the size of the plot usually do not match with the footprint size. submitted by Conghe Song at 2008-04-29 08:04:54
