An ESDR for land surface freeze-thaw state is currently under development as part of a NASA Measures funded project. A freeze-thaw whitepaper on this topic was previously developed under the ESDR land measurements team, but I don't see it here. This variable has clear linkages to carbon cycle science and will be one of the variables produced under the SMAP mission. It should be included in this discussion as a priority ESDR variable.
